Swim workout

  • 5 minutes warmup – 30 seconds kick drill, easy 50m
  • something else here?
  • 100m time trial – 1:47
  • 2 x 25m slow @ 29 sec
  • 100m easy
  • 400m time trial – 8:19
  • warm down 2 x 50m easy followed by quick stretch

As soon as I heard this was a time trial, I was seriously intimidated. The warmup felt tight and not good. The 100m was not as bad as I thought it was going to feel. My splits were 24, 25, 27, 27 and my thoughts were stay calm for the first two lengths and then I tried to go faster for the last two lengths. An observation, when I try to go faster something goes wrong and I actually go slower. I went fastest went I was trying to stay calm.

I was really nervous about doing 400m. I didn’t know if I could make it. I didn’t even know if I could count the right amount of lengths. The 400m was actually way easier then I thought. I just tried to go slow so that I wouldn’t have to stop mid way because I couldn’t make it. My ego took a little shot when I was put as the last swimmer to go in my lane. I had real troubles with getting bumped. I didn’t know what to do when I caught up to Tam with 100m to go so I breast stroked for half a length and slowed down. I also didn’t know how much I had left to go in the 400m.

But I didn’t have any trouble at all making it 400m. In fact, I found it quite easy. So I guess I should count that as a victory. I’m really hard on myself about where I’m at in the pool. I really want to be better. I hope that I can figure out the right things to do to get there.
