Snow at UBC

I went for a swim workout at UBC this morning

  • 2 x [100f, 100p, 50k]
  • 3 x 200f [200f, 200p, 200f] w/ 30s rest
  • 100f easy

It’s snowing again so I headed home early. It took me almost 2.5hr to get home on the bus. 10cm of snow turns this city upside down.

Woo Hoo

Woo Hoo! The snow is here and I love it. Saturday, I could hardly contain my excitement so I went skiing by myself at Cypress (2.5hr).

Sunday, we took the dogs snowshoeing at Dog mountain. Happiness is hiking in the snow with two crazy dogs. The drive up/down Seymour was a bit of an adventure.

Monday, a snow day – can you believe it! Power was out at UBC – so I couldn’t go to work. As soon as I heard the news, I went for a 2hr ski adventure right out my front door.

So much for my rest weekend, oops! – “…don’t be mad, I didn’t do any running, coach!” How could I resist, it’s the best start to a ski season in as long as I can remember.

A decisive swim

After spending a couple hours writing code this afternoon, my brain was on autopilot as I headed to the pool.  I did my pool workout in a decisive, no funny business manner and was done the whole workout very quickly.  The pool was a crowded gong show.  If you want to improve your ability to swim with crowds, go to the UBC pool at 4:30.
35 min swim workout at UBC

  • 100 free, 200 pull, 100 kick, 100 free
  • 2 x 50m drill
  • 7 x 100 free with 30 sec rest
  • 100 free

Next, I’m heading to Kits gym for treadmill/gym workout and a visit with Gerry

A Run to Watermania

I ran from my house to Watermania today.  According to google maps this is a 10.4km run.  It took me 57 min.  I had lots of fatigue and tightness in my lower back during the run.  This run definetly had the feeling of a “plod” but I did feel good for getting out and doing the workout.  I packed my run jacket with my googles, suit, hat, an admission ticket, 1 quarter, and a small towel.  You’d be amazed at how small I can pack my swim stuff.  After the run to the pool, I swam for 25min (5 min warmup, 15min, 5 min cooldown).

After the workout, Torbin picked me up and we went for dinner with big group (18) of my old racewalking friends.  It was good to see everyone and I ate a lot of Chinese food.

H2H and Severe Weather Warnings

Torbin and I did the H2H relay race today. It was a miserable day. We got off to a rocky start in the morning and then the weather just wouldn’t stop. My shoulder was killer cramped from sleeping on it funny.

The best parts of the day were running with Torbin during the last km of his relay leg and hanging out with the good people on our team at dinner.

You can see the overall results, the results for leg 5, and for leg 6.

I ran 4:56/km (49:20 10k pace) for my 13km leg of the race. For how I was feeling, 1:05 is actually a lot better time then I was expecting. I ran most of the leg with no one around, not a car, not a runner. I stopped once to sneak quietly by an insane pitbull who came rushing out of his driveway to attack a lone car that sped by, and then another time to recover from my sprint away from the monster pitbull house.
