In January 2006, I joined the LETC triathlon club with the goal of preparing for an Ironman race in 2007. In March, I started getting coached by Andrew. I followed this program which was designed around my biggest goal for the season which was the Victoria Half Iron Man race. The hardest part of the season was managing my fatigue levels as I built up the training hours in the spring. I really had to focus on rest, proper nutrition, and recognizing fatigue. I raced the Half Iron race well prepared and had a great experience. In fact, I was so well prepared that the race was easy. Squamish gave me a flavor the Olympic distance and really sparked my interest in pushing my performance boundaries.

2006 Fall Season

I spent the end of the summer on vacation. Torbin and I spent a week hiking in Kananaskis, one of my favorite parts of the country. In the Fall, I ran a couple running races. The Flatlands race totally sucked. The Seawall race was pretty good. The H2H race sucked and the Fall Classic was a pretty good day.

My focus during this ‘triathlon’ season was playing elite women’s ultimate but I did few workouts on the sly with the UBC triathlon club. In the UBC triathlon, I raced on my Kona Cinder Cone moutain bike and breast stroked most of the swim because I was freaked out by the crowded pool. Everybody has to start somewhere.
